About Us

Mission: Hope is a new ministry to Oakwood Church that launched on January 25, 2009.  This ministry was created out of the desire of the congregation at Oakwood Church to help care for the orphans as written in James 1:27:  Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Our vision statement is:

We will seek to increase the awareness of the
Oakwood Church body and the Lake Country community to the needs of foster care children and orphans with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of adoptions.

The three branches of support for our ministry are:
Orphan Care
Adoption Awareness
Foster Care Support

Our Vision Statement and Strategic Planning document is available for you to view
here.

Our practical ideas and activities include packing Care Kits for Congolese orphans and backpacks for foster kids, offering Sunday school classes and informational meetings on adoption, providing bookmarks to the congregation to encourage prayer for children waiting to be adopted, meals and clothing for foster families, a post-adoption resource group, and a missions trip to Latvia to work in an orphanage for a week.

We have hopes to add a resource collection on adoption, orphan and foster care to the Oakwood Church library, host an orphan sponsorship event, an adoption expo, and offer grants to families in the process of adopting.

We are a member of the
Christian Alliance for Orphans.

Would you consider joining us in serving our God, the ultimate Father?
